Important Information - Please read
before registering:
Grading System:
Students must maintain a minimum average of 70% in
all subjects. Those who fail to achieve this must make
arrangements to improve their standing. Students will be
granted an opportunity for rewriting an exam or
assignment.
Failure of a Course:
Students must retake any failed courses in the next
session that the course is available. Failure to take an
exam constitutes failure of that exam.
Code of Conduct:
The Balnea Institute will not tolerate cheating,
misrepresentation, unfairness or dishonesty. Students
whose conduct in any way threatens the well being of
fellow students, staff, patients or the profession will
be asked to leave (dismissed).
Course Exemptions or Recognition of Advanced
Standing:
Applicants with credits or qualifications from other
accredited institutions or courses may be exempt from
equivalent courses in the program. Students seeking
advanced standing must do so in writing to the Director
of Education.
Registration Deadlines:
Enrollment in all classes is limited. Students are
encouraged to apply well in advance of the course
deadline. Applications received after the deadline are
only accepted if space is available.
Attendance:
Students will be expected to attend school for one
year, Monday through Thursday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Home study time for projects, completion of
assignments and mid-term exams is expected.
Absences:
Hours in class that are missed must be made up before
final exams and certification. Full opportunity will be
provided for this. If a student is absent during the
time a new modality is being offered, students must
complete this at their earliest possible convenience, or
at the first available opportunity that the program is
available.
Equipment and Supplies:
The cost of equipment and supplies are all extra.
This will be billed as a separate fee prior to
commencing the course.
- Payments for equipment and kit fees can be made
by the following: Visa, MasterCard, Cash, Certified
Cheque.
Dress Code:
Students will be expected to business casual during
classes and to wear
uniforms during all clinic times. Esthetic students are
required to wear white uniforms for clinic time and
students enrolled in other programs can wear white or
pale coloured uniforms. This will consist of "medical
scrubs or a nurse's uniform" and are easily found in
various department stores.
Admission Policy:
All applicants are considered on the basis of their
academic achievement, relevant experience, motivation,
character, humanistic qualities and maturity.
A. Prerequisites:
The academic prerequisites for admission are as
follows:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
- Other relevant or equivalent qualifications in
the field of complementary therapies
B. Special Applicant:
Candidates who believe they are eligible for this
category must apply in writing before formal
application. This category is designed to provide
opportunities for those who:
- have not attended a post secondary institution
as a full time student or
- have attended, but failed to complete the
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
To be eligible for consideration under this category,
the candidate must demonstrate exceptional competence
and motivation, and must have been employed or active in
the community for at least 2 years since leaving high
school. Candidates will be assessed on having made an
exceptional contribution to society, demonstrating
creativity, initiative and leadership.
