Hot Stone Therapy

Prerequisites: Anatomy/Physiology and Massage skills/Swedish Massage

Duration: 3 days

Evaluation: 6 case histories and a practical assessment

Course content:

This wonderful relaxing massage technique uses the effects of warm stones placed strategically on the body to enhance physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Basalt stones are volcanic rocks that are nutrient and mineral rich that also retain heat for long periods of time. The positive energy of the stones also used to massage the body increases blood flow allowing muscles and internal body organs to relax. The benefits include:

· Deep relaxation

· Reduced stress levels

· Soothing the nervous system

· Reduced muscular aches and pains

· Improved inflammation for chronic areas

· Rejuvenation

The treatment allows the practitioner to work at a deeper level with less strain and stress. To enhance the treatment, we have included the use of essential oils in an easy to use, ready blended format. Knowledge of the chakras and their relation to the endocrine system is included as placement of the stones on the chakra points is part of the treatment.

Indian Head Massage or Indian Champissage

Prerequisites: None

Duration: 12 hours (2 days)

Evaluation: For qualification a written and practical assessment, plus 12 case studies are required. A certificate of attendance will be issued if you do not wish qualifications.

Course content:

Champissage means "head massage". This ancient art has been a part of ayurvedic tradition for over 4000 years. Massage of the head, incorporating the use of oils was of particular interest to women as part of their beauty routine for maintaining the luster and beauty of hair. Now as a modern spa treatment, Champissage has been expanded to include massage of the shoulders, neck, face and upper arms and to include energy work focused on the three upper chakras. Some benefits of the treatment are:

· Pain relief, reduced tension and  improved relaxation

· Increased circulation and lymphatic flow

· Clearer nasal passages and sinuses

· Improved alertness and clarity

Modern life with its daily menu of churning stress offers a prime environment for the introduction of this low risk, non-intrusive relaxation technique that requires only a few minutes or as a spa treatment lasting 30-45 minutes. This treatment can be easily practiced while seated in an office without disrobing and works immediately to bring about a sense of calm and relaxation.
