Aromatherapy is one of the fastest growing areas in complementary therapy.  Today more people are turning to Aromatherapy to enhance the quality of their lives. Our aim at The Balnea Institute is to prepare you to become a highly qualified, professional and, most importantly, successful Aromatherapist.  We do this by providing our students with rigorous training in scientific principles, a holistic philosophy and insight into the true art of Aromatherapy.

Recommended for anyone looking that retails aromatherapy products, health food store workers etc.

        - Certificate in Aromatherapy
Available for current practitioners looking to expand their knowledge.

         - Diploma in Aromatherapy (C.A.H.P) Certified Aromatherapy Health Professional
Recommended for the individual wanting to be a licensed Aromatherapist.  Students are prepaid for Board Exams offered by the Canadian Federation of Aromatherapy.  Each of the above qualifications involves a selection of courses from the core programs, mandatory aromatherapy programs and electives.

 

Completion and Certification:

  • Students must pass all courses with a minimum average of 70%.

  • All Institute exams must be completed successfully before Board exams may be taken.

  • Classes are offered to help prepare for Board exams.

  • For Board exams:

    • You need to complete a first aid course.

    • You need to complete 30 case histories.

Options and Exemptions:

  • Certified practitioners of other modalities and estheticians may take certain units as additional skills without taking the complete program.

  • Exemptions from modules are applicable for those suitably qualified

Important Note:

This program is designed to meet all requirements outlined by the Canadian Federation of Aromatherapy. Students will have the opportunity to take Board exams, use the certification, CAHP, and qualify for professional membership. This course is recognized for municipal licensing.

 

Program Highlights

 

The Basic Treatment

This course is an introductory program to body work for the new therapist. It is also suitable for estheticians or massage therapists interested in combining lymph drainage techniques with essential oils. This aromatherapy treatment technique    is a unique method developed by Eve Taylor, taught and recognized around the world. Upon successful completion, therapists will be able  to perform a one-hour clinical aromatherapy treatment.

 

Introduction to Aromatherapy

This course is designed to provide  the basic knowledge of Aromatherapy covering the history of aromatherapy from ritual uses in ancient civilizations through medieval alchemy to modern day applications in the health history. The concept and philosophy of well being which is the fundamental basis upon which aromatherapy is based. This section is completed with a look at aromatherapy first aid, detailing certain essential oils for every day use.

 

Aroma Chemistry & Botany

Prerequisites: Intro to Aromatherapy

The science of aromatherapy is only truly understood by studying the plants, their classification and properties, and by understanding the chemistry of the essential oils themselves. Students will receive a basic understanding of organic  chemistry, the impact of climate and growing conditions on plant chemistry, manufacturing procedures and quality control.

 

Science of Essential Oils 2

Prerequisites: Introduction to Aromatherapy, Chemistry, Botany

In this course students will profile 30 commonly used essential oils and 10 carrier oils with properties, indications and safety data. Methods of use and application along with correct percentage dilutions are also covered.

 

Blending of Essential Oils 3

Prerequisites: Science of Essential Oils 2

Students now continue to develop their materia medica of essential oils. A further 30 oils are discussed, including the rare and unusual. Designed for the serious aromatherapist, this course now leads towards board certification. More carrier oils, manufacturing and quality control in production are focused on in this  program.

These classes are not included in the Aromatherapy Certification Program and can only be completed by an  active professional Aromatherapist

 

Palliative Care & Dementia

Aromatherapy with massage is particularly suited   to those in palliative care and the   terminally ill, who have a profound  need for caring and loving touch of gentle hands.  Massage conveys warmth, comfort, pleasure and safety.  For these people, the use of essential oils to enhance massage treatment can relieve some of the anxiety in a caring way and perhaps bring about deeper, more relaxed sleep.  When working with elderly or ill clients they may experience pain relief,    infection and immune control,   gastrointestinal care, skin and   wound care and stress management.
