Building a Foundation with Core Programs

(See Course Schedule for Pricing and Dates)

 

Core Programs are designed to enhance all practitioners level of education and confidence.  These are mandatory classes for the full certification programs such as Esthetics with Spa Therapies, Natural Health Care Practitioner, Aromatherapy and Iridology.  Also, these classes are offered individually to existing or beginner practitioners.

 


 

Anatomy/Physiology

Prerequisite: None

Evaluation: Mid-term and final written exams and assignments

Course content: This course is a mandatory, pre-requisite study for those entering into the field of complementary health care. Available as an in-class program or by distance learning, this module looks at the human body and functioning of body systems, in health and disease. Specific study modules are provided for each lesson along with projects and research designed to develop the skills and understanding of the human body required by a practitioner.

 


 

Oriental Analysis

Prerequisite: None

Course content: Oriental Analysis is an ancient technique used to read the face and feet to help the practitioner to determine areas of the body that are imbalanced, and therefore require attention and treatment. The basic principle behind this analysis technique is simply that the skin is the largest organ and is a reflection of who we are inside. This module is compulsory for beginners, but is recommended for therapists of any other complementary therapy as an addition to a traditional style consultation.

 


 

Practitioner Skills

Prerequisite: Oriental Analysis

Evaluation: Class participation

Course content: Skills taught in this class are to enhance consultation techniques. An accurate consultation, the ability to obtain information and build rapport with the client often determines the outcome and accuracy of the treatment. The client needs to feel the practitioner is competent and good rapport builds client loyalty.

 


 

Business Studies and Ethics

Prerequisite: None

Evaluation: Projects and assignments

Course content:  This program guides you through all the necessary steps to becoming successful in your new career. Setting up a new business creates many obstacles and requires certain skills, from book-keeping, computer programs, marketing, retailing, business plans and financial proposals. This program takes you step by step through the process of setting up your new business.

 


 

Nutrition Fundamentals

Prerequisite:  None

Evaluation:  Written exam, projects and assignments

Course content:  This course offers an introduction and overview  of the field of nutrition.  Students will understand the link between nutrition and preventative health and how poor nutrition habits can undermine our health.  Students will explore basic foods, new foods and participate each week cooking, exploring new recipes for self help, family and clients.  This module is a must for estheticians and all alternative health care practitioners.

 


 

Women's Health

Pre-Requisite:  None

Evaluation:  Class Participation

Course content:  Understanding women's bodies in both health and disease is important in the practitioner consultation process.  Course material includes details on the disease process, detoxification, healing process, basic oriental analysis, energetic connections, the impact of the environment, diet and stress on health and basic solutions to common health issues.  Notes provided.

 


 

Understanding Menopause

Pre-Requisite:  Women's Health

Evaluation:  Class Participation

Course content:

This program looks at how the three hormones give rise to 12 different types of menopausal women and the symptoms they can  experience.  Understanding the 12 can then lead to correct selection of product home care and treatment protocols.

 


 

Differential Diagnosis

Pre-Requisite:    None

Evaluation:   Class Participation

Course content:    Differential diagnosis is the art of distinguishing serious disease from minor illness.  Many complementary therapies require this fine art of observation, most of which is lost or simply not taught.  This course aims to make you confident that you will not miss any condition that requires urgent medical attention or to refer onward if necessary.  The aim is to also be aware of allopathic investigation methods, tests and common conditions, which may be presented based on recognized symptoms and signs; and herbal book references.

 


 

Sanitization & Sterilization

Pre-Requisite:    None

Evaluation:   Class Participation

Course content:  "The Inspector is coming, are you ready”.  This class looks at disease transmission,    cleaning vs. disinfecting, sterilizers, protective equipment for the practitioner and proper foot bath cleansing.

 


 

Introduction to Chinese Medicine

Pre-Requisite:    None

Course content:  Focuses on the prevention and treatment of disease using a variety of natural remedies.  In this module students will learn:

· The history of TCM

· The five elements

· Nature and application of the Yin and Yang concept

· Functions and Inter-relations of the Yin and Yang organs

· Cause and diagnosis of disease

· The vital substances and the

concept of Qi in Chinese
